Montana Scholarships and Grants

Congratulations, Seniors!!! This is your year, full of activities and fun, along with added responsibilities. One of those is getting into college. There are school applications to fill out and so many decisions to make. One of the responsibilities that should be at the top of your checklist is to look into scholarships to help you with school expenses. You’ll be amazed at what’s out there – the number of opportunities just waiting for you. Listed below are a few we found but there are so many more. Aloha Scholarship – American Legion Montana

If you’ve always wanted to be a nurse – or just decided yesterday – this is one opportunity you should check out. It is intended for use for your freshman year of study at an accredited nursing school. To qualify you must have a parent or grandparent who is an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In addition to your scholarship application, you will have to provide letters of recommendation and proof of eligibility. The award is for $400. Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship Program

If you are a high school senior who has already faced and overcome great obstacles in your life, you need to take a closer look at this program.

Other requirements include ability to demonstrate financial need; that you have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and have a record of good academic achievement; that you are serious-minded in your approach to your future; and, that you are service oriented. Along with your completed application you will need to submit an essay, copy of your transcript, a letter of support, and an income statement. The scholarship may be used for full-time undergrad study at 2 or 4-year colleges or universities in the United States. There is no specified field of study, but you must be in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. If you would like more details check out this website: www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. Governor’s Need Based Scholarship

This is a scholarship intended for high school seniors residing in Montana who are going to require financial assistance to pursue a college education. The award is for $1,000, and may be used at Montana University, state schools, or tribal schools. Multiple scholarships are awarded throughout the state. Contact the financial aid office at your chosen state college for more information, or go to www.mgslp.org.

Montana Higher Education Grant

Listen up!!! This is a grant – not a loan – and that means you don’t have to repay it after you graduate. It is intended for high school seniors living in Montana, with demonstrable financial need. First, go on line (details noted above) and complete the free FSFSA application. Contact the college financial aid office for specific grant application information. There are also more details at www.mgslp.org. The award is for $1,000, and multiple grants are given throughout the state.

Montana University System Honor

You’ve worked hard and maintained a record of outstanding scholastic achievement. Now it’s time to put that to work for you and apply for this scholarship. To apply, you must be a high school senior who lives in Montana. You should have at least a 3.4 GPA, and have met college prep requirements. In addition to the scholarship application, you will need to submit letters of recommendation, a transcript, proof that you have attended high school in Montana for at least three years, a copy of your college acceptance letter from a Montana University System university, and your SAT/ACT scores. There is also additional information available on line at www.mgslp.org. Submit your completed application for this award, along with the other required documents to your high school guidance counselor. The award is for full tuition and multiple awards are given.

Treacy Company

This is a renewable scholarship for a full-time college freshman in North Dakota, Idaho, or Montana. To apply you must reside in one of those states and be a high school senior, and be able to demonstrate your need for financial aid. Letters indicating leadership ability, attitudes regarding community service, and transcript showing high scholastic record must be submitted with your application. The award is in the amount of $1,000. You must write for the scholarship application:
