There are dozens of scholarship opportunities for students just like you, and eligibility requirements span the spectrum when it comes to grades, financial need, or interests. Dozens of scholarships go unclaimed every year because no one applies for them. The only thing keeping you from receiving one is YOU – you’ll never know if you could qualify for one of these prizes unless you try! If you can’t find one that appeals to you in the list below, go by and talk to your high school guidance counselor. They have resources to point you in the direction of many, many more.

AICPA Minority Accounting Students

Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and Asian American are ethnic groups that are currently greatly under-represented in the accounting field. Therefore, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has established the Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students to encourage deserving students to pursue this career path. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – Gates Millennium Scholars

These are renewable scholarships awarded to full-time freshmen students who are of Alaskan native, Asian American, African American, Hispanic American, American Indian, or Hawaiian/Pacific Islander heritage. Applicant must be a high school student interested in a career in computer or information science, engineering, public health, education, math, or library science. To be eligible for this award you must be able to demonstrate the need for financial assistance to continue your education. You must also have a minimum 3.3 GPA, and be nominated by a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal at your high school. For more information contact www.gmsp.org.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute

If you are Mexican American, Hispanic American, or Puerto Rican, you might be eligible for this scholarship. It is intended for use for full-time study by undergraduate or graduate students. You must be able to demonstrate your need for financial assistance in order to pursue your college education. Students in 2-year institutions will be awarded $1,000, and those in 4-year schools will receive $2,500. Graduate students will receive $5,000.

Ford Motor Company

If you are a high school senior of Hispanic descent, and can demonstrate a need for financial aid to go on to college, you may be eligible for this award. You must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA. The award is in the amount of $2,500. To find out more about your eligibility, go to fordfund.org.

General College Scholarship

This award is intended for full-time undergraduate students of Hispanic lineage who can demonstrate financial need, and who have a record of high scholastic achievement. You must also have a history of service to your community, and have demonstrated seriousness of purpose in your studies and life. Along with your application you will need to submit letters of recommendation, an essay, official transcript, proof of eligibility, plus documentation of your FAFSA and SAR results (FAFSA is a free-application on line to determine your eligibility for financial aid. Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors

If you plan to be a full-time student this year at a 2 or 4-year college or university this year, and plan on majoring in physics, read on. To be eligible you must be of Hispanic heritage. Youshould have an excellent of scholastic achievement, as well as high ACT or SAT scores. You must be a high school senior, or a college freshman or sophomore to apply. There are multiple awards given every year ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 each. For more information, go to aps.org/programs/minorities.

HCF

This scholarship is intended for use for full-time study at an accredited university in the United States or Puerto Rico. To apply you must be Hispanic, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and be able to prove your need for financial aid. In addition to your application, you will need to submit letters of recommendation, essay, transcript, proof of eligibility, resume, proof of financial need, and proof of U.S. citizenship. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA. There are many of these scholarships awarded each year, and they range in amount from $500 to $5,000.

Lagrant

These scholarships may be used to finance full-time study by sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate students. You must represent a minority sector that includes Mexican American, Hispanic American, or Puerto Rican. Minimum GPA required is 2.75 for undergraduate students, and 3.2 for graduate students. LULAC National Scholarship Fund Honors Award

If you are a Hispanic student with an outstanding academic record, this award is aimed right at you! You should have a 3.25 overall GPA, and have scored a minimum of 23 on the ACT or 1100 on the SAT. Along with your application you will need to prepare transcript, essay, proof of eligibility, and a copy of your admission acceptance letter to the college you have chosen. The amounts of the awards range from $500 to $2,000. www.Inesc.org.

LULAC National Scholarship Fund National Scholastic Achievement Awards

This scholarship may be used at the 2 or 4-year college or university of your choice. Eligibility requires that you be of Hispanic heritage, and have demonstrated very high academic achievement, with at least a 3.5 overall GPA, and scores on your ACT of 29 or 1350 on the SAT. There is no major field of study specified for this award. Application packet should include your essay, official transcript, proof of eligibility, and a copy of your admission acceptance letter to the school of your choice. LULAC National Scholarship Fund General Awards

Students of Mexican American, Hispanic American or Puerto Rican descent are eligible for this award. If you intend to be a full-time student at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university, have a demonstrable need for financial aid to continue your education, have volunteered for community service hours, and have demonstrated strength of character and leadership abilities, you just might receive this scholarship. Application requirements include an interview, essay, official transcript, proof of eligibility and a copy of your letter of acceptance to the college or university of choice. Grades are a consideration but integrity, sincerity, and motivation of the applicants are major factors in the selection process. Amounts of the awards range from $250 to $1,000. www.Inesc.org.
