West Virginia Scholarships and Grants

Calling all you high school seniors in West Virginia! You’ve worked hard, made your grades, and now it’s time to think about college – seriously!!! A scholarship or a grant might be just what you need to make your college education possible. And, even if that’s not the case, it never hurts to get some recognition – which is what a scholarship is — for hard work, well done. Scholarships and grants are bountiful in our state. Greater Kanawha Valley

Do you have a good academic record, and did you score at least a 20 on your ACT? Do you live in West Virginia and are you a high school senior? Then you need to check out this website: www.tgkvf.org. This group offers over 80 scholarships each year, and each one has its own specific eligibility criteria. The amount of the award is $1,000. Get on line and see if you qualify for one of them!!!

Horatio Alger West Virginia

If you are a high school senior who has already faced and overcome great obstacles in your life, you need to take a closer look at this program.

You must be a graduating high school senior, living in our state, who can demonstrate financial need. You must have a history of academic achievement, with at least a 2.0 GPA. Depth of character and your commitment to community service are also deciding factors. To apply you will need to submit an essay, copy of your transcript, a letter of support, and an income statement. The scholarship may be used for full-time undergraduate study at accredited universities and colleges in the United States. There are multiple awards, each in the amount of $5,000. West Virginia Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

College is a big step, but you are ready for it! So, before it’s too late, why not apply for a scholarship to help out? This particular scholarship awards $1,500, and is renewable. It is to be applied to full time undergraduate study at any 2 or 4-year institution in the United States. You must be a high academic achiever to qualify for this scholarship. Application requirements include an essay, transcript, proof of eligibility, and SAT/ACT scores. There is a limited number of nominations that each high school can submit, so run by your school’s guidance office and find out how to be one of them! Do you have an excellent scholastic record, and will you need financial aid to continue your education? If you are a WV graduating high school senior – this is very important!!! This is a merit-based scholarship requiring the following: at least a 22 composite ACT, showing minimum score of 20 in math, science, English and reading; or, a composite score on your math and reading SAT of 1020, with at least a 480 math and 490 reading score; and, a GPA of 3.0 or higher. To demonstrate the need for financial assistance, complete the free FSFSA application on line (see ‘note’ on previous page for details).
